INTERNATIONAL 3-13 NATO Mistook Embassy As Belgrade Arms Agency A NATO aircraft bombed the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade because the military command mistakenly believed it was a Serbian weapons agency, NATO officials said. It was not clear who was responsible for the mistake. Officials said the Central Intelligence Agency had picked the target. INTERNATIONAL A3-11 More China Protests Over Embassy Bombing American diplomats said they felt like hostages in their offices as tens of thousands of furious demonstrators marched to protest NATO's bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade and pelted American Embassy buildings in Beijing with eggs, stones, paint balloons and chunks of concrete. Protests also occurred in other cities over the weekend, including Shanghai and Chengdu, where the American Consul General's home was set on fire.
