Samuel « Sam » Jones, né le à Wilmington (Caroline du Nord) et mort le est un ancien joueur de basket-ball américain, élu parmi les meilleurs joueurs du cinquantenaire de la NBA.
Jones passe chacune de ses 12 saisons de NBA aux Celtics de Boston, qui le sélectionnent huitième choix de la draft et avec lesquels il est 10 fois champion. Jones est un spécialiste des tirs décisifs. Il est usuellement référencé comme quatrième meilleur arrière des années 1960, derrière Oscar Robertson, Jerry West et Hal Greer.
Jones marque 15 411 points avec une moyenne de 17,7 points par match et une adresse de 80,3 % aux lancers-francs. Il est trois fois sélectionné dans la All-NBA Second Team et cinq fois pour le NBA All-Star Game. Il est élu au Basketball Hall of Fame en 1984 et lors de la première promotion du National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame en 2006.

THE possibilities in adapting stage plays for microphone presentation were never better illustrated than in the recent ethereal production of Jerome Kern's "Show Boat." It proved beyond doubt that to do a good job an hour in needed, whereas several attempts to condense "Show Boat" and other stage successes into half-hour presentations were not as effective.

Two records for outboard motor boats were announced yesterday by the National Outboard Racing Commission. They were at 35.4 miles an hour for 5 miles in competition in a Class E runabout, made at Stockton, Cal., on May 28, by L.E. Heckendorf, a professional, and another of 36.2 miles at the same distance, also in a Class E runabout at Stockton, by H.B. Purviance, an amateur.

Trading on the Stock Exchange was slightly more active yesterday than on the previous Saturday, but trading was lacking in color and interest. Except for the week-end business reports, which were altogether cheerful, there was little to stimulate the share market.
